Kids Playroom Inspiration & Organization

I think we've moved our kids playroom around 3 times now. It started upstairs, then moved to the basement, and now it's back upstairs. There's something about the basement that has our kids feeling like they're headed into the abyss! So, it's back upstairs. For now.
We started by painting everything in Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams, and I love the color. It's such a beautiful gray that brings depth to the rooms in our home. We then added a gallery wall with pictures from our last family photography session, and I love how it turned out.
I picked up picture frames from Hobby Lobby. Here are the exact sizes I used!
- 1 - 8x10
- 2 - 9x12
- 2 - 12x16
- 1 - 11x17
- 1 - 16x20
If you're looking for a similar style, here are some options for you! (Farmhouse wood frames)
There's one wall in the play room that transitions into our main area upstairs, and on that small wall we added a rustic wood growth chart. I absolutely love it. About every six months we take our kids' measurements and add it to the ruler. It's a great way to keep track of how tall they are getting, and we can take it with us wherever we go!
I added a snake plant to the space as well. Snake plants are known for removing toxins from the air, thereby improving the air we're breathing day in and day out. They also boost mental health, help with minor health issues, increase oxygen, and they don't need tons of light or water! Our snake plants thrive almost anywhere we put them, you can't go wrong with adding one to your home!
In our actual play room we have a space for our son to have all of his cars and Hot Wheels playsets. He loves having a spot that's just his and he often hangs out there for hours at a time.
In another corner is a reading nook with a tent that my oldest enjoys crawling into from time to time with her books. In that area I also have a small table and chairs that I refinished many years ago. (See the end result here)
In the opposite corner we have a play kitchen and trunk to hold their American Girl/Our Generation accessories and clothes. That works so well to keep everything together. And these baskets from Target are functional for storage and are a nice touch in any room.
And finally, the last area in our playroom that we decorated is our gallery wall and we added storage organizers with fabric bins to keep toys organized. These white cubbies look nice, and when the toys are put away it feels so organized!
Happy painting, decorating, renovating, and DIYing!
With joy always,
Jessica
